What We Do

When he was only 10 years old, Richard Moore from Derry/Londonderry was blinded by a rubber bullet fired at point blank range. Richard could have given in to bitterness but chose instead to live a life of forgiveness, compassion and caring for others. He founded Children in Crossfire in 1996, with the goal of helping free some of the world’s most vulnerable children from poverty and injustice.

Since then, Children in Crossfire has changed the lives of many thousands of children in African countries. Our focus now is on Early Childhood Development in Tanzania and Ethiopia, where we work to ensure young children in those countries get the positive start in life they deserve. Progress has been made there in recent years but so much more is needed. Providing access to a school building is on its own not enough for the children we help. A more nutritious diet, access to safe and clean water, well trained teachers, properly equipped classrooms and class sizes that allow for learning are all vital if young children are to fulfil their potential. For every £1 Children in Crossfire raises, 84p is invested directly in our programmes. That money is not only life-changing, often it is life-saving.

Our goal is simple: to do more for more. That requires us to raise more. We hope you will be inspired by our vision.
